Ghost stories are a time honored tradition and have spiced up family legend, camping trips, and Halloween parties for who knows how long. But is there anything to them, or is it all just entertainment?
It is our belief that many cases of perceived paranormal activity is explainable. Often people take rationally explainable circumstances and relate them as paranormal. Some "activity" is simply from ignorance of physical science. And sometimes, it is all just a story.
However, there are those times when paranormal happenings simply cannot be explained away. Activity that stands up to the most rigid scientific scrutiny has nowhere to go but into the category of legitimate paranormal activity. That is the mission of CMPS. We want to experience it for ourselves, logically gather and evaluate the evidence, and report what we find. We don't have psychics, crystal balls, or Ouija boards. We do have sound scientific equipment, open and logical minds, and an insatiable thirst for clear paranormal truth.
Operating in the greater Charleston area, we hope to peek behind the veil of the supernatural and see just what there is in the South Carolina Lowcountry. CMPS does not charge any fees for our services. We are normal people with normal jobs who don't do this for a living. We do it because it is fascinating.
WHAT IS PARANORMAL?
Marriam-Webster defines it as:
para·nor·mal - not scientifically explainable : SUPERNATURAL
su·per·nat·u·ral - 1: of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe; especially : of or relating to God or a god, demigod, spirit, or devil 2 a : departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature b : attributed to an invisible agent (as a ghost or spirit)
In other words, anything that just isn't considered "normal" and cannot be explained logically with the popularly accepted laws and theories of existence. For our purposes, the term "paranormal" is used specifically in relation to "ghosts" and "hauntings."
WHAT CMPS DOES
CMPS is dedicated to respectfully and professionally investigating strong suspected hauntings. Sound scientific methods will be used to try to capture solid evidence that can be scrutinized. Here are some of the things that we will be trying to capture:
* EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon): This is when a recording is played back and a voice is heard that was not present when the recording was made.
* Video and Photography: This can include unexplained physical movement of objects such as doors, as well as the appearance of unexplained mists and actual manifestations.
* EMF readings (electromagnetic field): Because so many things have electromagnetic fields associated with them, an EMF reading by itself does not truly constitute proof. This will be used more as a guide to find the entity to record the activity in some more tangible form.
A CMPS investigation has a two-fold purpose:
1) To provide evidence that the supernatural is real as well as to gather information and help foster a better understanding of the supernatural. In essence, our efforts are aimed at advancing the study of the paranormal and securing it's acceptance as a true science worthy of serious study by the mainstream.
2) To offer piece of mind to those that claim to be affected by the supernatural by either scientifically confirming paranormal activity or providing other rational explanations for it.
We do not claim to be able or willing to "remove" spirits or interpret the reason for their activity. We simply attempt to detect and gather evidence of a suspected haunting.
